Ghosi is a historical town in Mau district of Uttar Pradesh and is located on NH 29. It is surrounded by Bargaon in the north (1 km.), Sohar in the west (8 km.) and Kopaganj in the south (10 km.). The nearest railway station is the Ghosi railway station on the Indara- Dohrighat rail line, which connects the town with different parts of the state. The nearest airport is at Varanasi at a distance of 104 km. It is located between 26.11° North latitude and 83.54° East longitude at an average elevation of 68 metres (223 feet) above mean sea level.
According to the 2001 census report, Ghosi had a population of 35,833 inhabitants. Males constitute 52% of the population and females constitute 48% of the population. In Ghatshila, 19% of the population is less than six years of age. The town has an average literacy rate of 63%, which is slightly higher than the national average literacy rate of 59.5%. The male literacy rate is 71% and the female literacy rate is 55%. The town houses the ruins of a large mud fort, which is the main attraction inside the town. According to legends, this fort was believed to have been erected by Asuras.
