Kosi Kalan is a town located in Chhata taluk in Mathura District of Uttar Pradesh. It is on the Agra-Delhi highway (NH 2). Agra is about 100 km from here. This place is popularly known as the holy place of Braj (Vraj).
Kosi Kalan has got a rich history behind it. Experts believe that primitive name `Kush-van` which means grass forest in English has been shortened to become Kosi Kalan. To facilitate accessibility Kosi Kalan is well connected by rails, roads and airports. Railway Station, lying on the Delhi-Mathura main line, and also airport at New Delhi lie in vicinity. From this Census report, one can also decipher information about its literacy rate. Thus the average literacy rate constitutes 51 %, which is even lower than that of India, which has shown a measurement of 59.5 %. Out of it, male literacy is 59 %, while the rate of female literacy is 41 %.
