Muthur is a small settlement situated in Erode district of the southern state of India, Tamil Nadu. Covering an area of 33 square kilometers, Muthur is situated in the southwest of Sivagiri at a distance of 10 km. and in the southeast of Chennimalai at a distance of 18 km. Kollankoil surrounds it in the north, Vellakovil at a distance of 13 kilometers in the south, Kangeyam at a distance of 19 kilometers in the west and Kodumudi at a distance of 17 kilometers in the east. The nearest airport is C A Coimbatore Airport. It is also accessible from Kangeyam via roadways.
As per the Indian Census report published in 2001, Muthur had a population of 12,063. Males and females account for an equal proportion of the population. In Muthur, 9 percent of the population is less than six years of age. The Census report also reveals the literacy rate of Muthur, which is 59 percent. It is slightly lower than the national average literacy rate, which is 59.5 percent. The male literacy rate of Muthur is 70 percent and the female literacy rate is 48 percent.
