Kottaram is the name of a panchayat town, which is situated in the district of Kanniyakumari of Tamil Nadu state of Indian continent.
Discussion on any town or place becomes incomplete unless and until one gathers enough information about the demographical scenario of the concerned town. Thus to achieve that objective a handful of demographers have been appointed for conducting surveys and research works. On the basis of gathered information they also have prepared reports, which throw light on certain demographical aspects like population status, literacy rate etc. Exclusive is the Census report that has been issued forth in the year 2001. According to this report, the total population of Kottaram has showed a measurement of 9450. Interestingly, female populace constitutes 51 %, while the population of males is only 49 %. This automatically establishes the fact that males are more in number than that of females. In Kottaram, 9 % of the total population is below six years of age.
Whether a town has seen development or not is apparent from the study of its literacy condition. As far as the average literacy of Kottaram is concerned, it has shown a measurement 84 %, which is even higher than that of the entire nation. 59.5 % is India`s average literacy rate. Not only that both male and females also have given priority to education. This has resulted in their high literacy rates. Thus 87 %, and 82 % are the rates of male and female literacy.
The town covers a total area of about 4 sq km. Around Kottaram, few important settlements also have developed. Mandaikadu lies in the southwestern part, in the northwestern part Kulasekarapuram is located. Also Azhagappapuram and Agasteeswaram are situated in the northeastern and southeastern parts respectively.
