Basudebpur is a town as well as a notified area committee situated in the Bhadrak district in the state of Orissa in the eastern part of India. The headquarters of the district are located in the town of Bhadrak. On the 1st of April 1993 this district was formed from the Balasore District and became a detached entity. The district spreads over an area of 2,677 square km and has a population of 1,332,249 as per the 2001 census. The Bhadrak town is located 159 km away from the state capital, Bhubaneswar, and it is well known for the Bhadrakali Temple. The dialect commonly spoken by the people is Oriya, though a few people speak Urdu, Santhali, and Bengali. Salandi River passes along the district. The first Chief minister of Orissa, Dr. Harekrushna Mahatab, belongs to this district.The exact geographical location of Basudebpur is at 21.14° North and 86.74° East. It has a mean elevation of 3 metres (9 feet). According to the 2001 India census, the town of Basudebpur has a population of 29,998. Males make up 52% of the population and females amount to 48%. Basudebpur has an average literacy rate of 60%, higher than the national average of 59.5%. 60% of the males and 40% of the females are literate. 14% of the population is less than 6 years of age.
