]Nellore, a city in the state of Andhra Pradesh is of strategic commercial importance as it lies between the cities of Vijayawada and Madras. This city is located on the banks of the Penna River. Nellore is also famous for its production of mica and agricultural products such as rice. Nellore is famous for temples like Narasimha Swamy Konda, Jonnavada Kamakshi Ammavari temple, Ayyappa Temple.

Nellore is frequently affected by cyclones. In summer, water is scarce in certain areas. The surrounding districts of Nellore are Cuddapah, Ongole and Chittoor. It has the Bay of Bengal coast along its eastern boundary, Ongole to the north, Cuddappah to the west and Chittoor to the south. Dargamitta, Buja Buja Nellore, K.P. Housing Colony, Magunta layout are highly populated residential areas in and around Nellore city. The places, which are also near to Nellore, are heavily populated such as Gudur, Sulurpeta, Kavali, Buchi Reddy Palem, Kovur and Sriharikota. Kasumuru Dargah is also famous which is located near Nellore. Recently south Asia`s biggest port KrishnaPatnam Port has been inaugurated at Krishnapatnam, which is around 25 km from Nellore with most sophisticated infrastructure equivalent to Singapore`s sea port. Along the western edge of the district are hills of the Eastern Ghats, thus bordering the Cuddapah district.

Talpagiri Rangantha Swamy Temple is a very famous temple situated on the Banks of River Pennar that dates back to the 6th century but has been in history records from 12th century. Tikkana Somayaji the 2nd of the Kavitrayam wrote 15 chapters (parvaalu) of Andhra Mahabharatamu in this temple. Next to it is situated the Desikan Temple. These temples are well maintained by the Nellore municipality. Nellore is bounded by Bay of Bengal in the East, Tamilnadu State and Chittoor district in the South, Cuddapah district in the West and Prakasam district in the North directions. Pennar, Kandaleru, Swarnamukhi and Upputeru are the rivers flowing in and around Nellore city.

Pulicat lake SanctuaryThe places of tourist interest in Nellore include Pulicat Sanctuary, Sangam, Udhayagiri, Sriharikota SHAR Space Center, Nelapattu Sanctuary and Jonnawada. The pilgrimage centers of this city are Talapagiri Ranganatha Swamy temple, Jonnawada temple, Penchalakonda temple, Sri Raja Rajeswari Temple and Sri Ranga Nayaka Swamy Temples. Nellore is popular for its Venkatagiri Sarees and Leather Toys. Industries of Dairy milk, Straw Board and Nippo Battery at Nellore, Sugar factory, Mica, Stone Polishing and Fisheries made the city economy rise significantly.

Nellore has historical importance as well. This place was under the rule of Satavahanas, Cholas, Telugu Chodas, Pallavas, Vijayanagara kings, Kakatiyas, Golkonda Nawabs and Britishers. Nellore is also called as Vikrama Simhapuri. The city was under the rule of Manuma Siddhi in the 13th century and Thikkana Somayagi was the Minister in the Royal court during this tenure. He completed 15 cantos of Maha Bharat started by Nanaiah. Thikkana who belongs to this district first wrote Nirvachanothara Ramayanam.

Forest area in Nellore comprises only 18% of the total district area. Pulicat Lake is claimed as the Birds Sanctuary with an area of 500 Sq.km, housing many rare birds. Tigers and Cheetahs Sanctuary near Velugonda are the efforts made by the Government in maintaining the Eco-Systems. Rice from this part is known to be the finest and of Top quality. Nippo - Batteries an Indo-Japanese collaboration plant are major industries in Nellore. Paddy Business is at its best in Nellore. Fisheries are fruitful because of the Coastline it`s having and the Pulicat Lake.

Nellore has many medium scale irrigation projects, such as the Somasila project built on the river Pennar in 1875, which is the biggest one in the district. Another Project was built on the river Pennar in 1886 at Sangam near Nellore. Thermal Power Project situated at head quarters Nellore caters the power supply to the Mica mines and to domestics.
