Ganderbal is a small settlement in the Srinagar district of the northern state of India, Jammu and Kashmir. It was originally known as Doderhom and was the official headquarters of the Sindh valley. The Sindh Nallah, which originates from the inner Himalaya ranges of Drass flows through the town and enters the plains. The town appears like a floating garden surrounded by swamps.
According to the 2001 India census report, Ganderbal had a population of 13,944 inhabitants. Males constitute 53% of the population and females constitute 47% of the population. In Ganderbal, 12% of the population is less than six years of age. Ganderbal has an average literacy rate of 52%, which is lower than the national average literacy rate of 59.5%. The male literacy rate is 66%, and the female literacy rate is 37%.
