The Salar Jung Museum is one of the oldest museums of Hyderabad. Situated on the banks of the Musi River, the museum has an exquisite collection of objets d’art from around the world. You will be amazed at the labour of love of Salar Jung III, and the museum is believed to be the largest one man collection in the world. Look out for the chief attractions of the museum that include the world famous statue of the "Veiled Rebecca", her lovely face hazily visible through a fine gossamer veil of marble. Marvel at the simple beauty of the "Lady with the lamp". Get transported back to a bygone era as you gaze at the crafted daggers belonging to Empress Noor Jehan, emperors Jehangir and Shah Jehan, Aurangzeb's sword, and the clothing of the Mughal emperors and of Tipu Sultan. The painting gallery possesses the works of the famous Raja Ravi Varma. Equally captivating is the two sided wood sculpture of the nonchalant Mephistopheles with the image of a demure Margaretta in the mirror, symbolizing good and evil. A lovely diversion is to watch the Musical Clock at the Salar Jung Museum strike 12 noon. The unique feature of a timekeeper emerging from the upper deck of the clock to strike a gong is an unending source of wonder for the young and old alike.
