The Dachigam National park is situated at a distance of around 22kms from the city of Srinagar. The Park covers an area of around 141sq.kms, which abounds in natural vegetation. The height of the Park varies from place to place and may vary between 1700m to 4300m. The chief attractions of the Park are the two steep ridges that surround the park. The park abounds in large number of ravines, alpine pastures, wooded slopes, rocky outcrops etc. The Masrar Lake located at a height of 4300m in the Park is the chief source of the river Dachigam. The winter season is the ideal time for visiting the place.

The park abounds in a rich vegetation cover, which comprises of various species of plants and trees that are hard to find somewhere else. The park also provides shelter to various species of animals. The chief attraction of the park is the endangered species of Kashmir Stag or Hangul. There are various other animals like Himalayan black bear, markhor, Ibex, leopard, musk deer, Himalayan marmot etc. One can also see here various types of birds like crimson tragopan, the blood pheasant, iridescent monal pheasant, golden eagle, koklass pheasant, lammergeyer and many more.
