The gentle Hills of the Phansad Wildlife Sanctuary are positioned in between the northern Sahyadri range and the western coast of India. The sanctuary represents a coastal woodland ecosystem of Western Ghats, which makes the habitat very rich and offers a serene experience to visitors.

Extending over an area of about 53 sq. kilometres, the sanctuary supports the panther, sambar deer, wild boar, barking deer and hyena. The main attraction of the Phansad Wildlife Sanctuary, however, is the beautiful Giant Indian Squirrel, but given its shy disposition, catching a glimpse is not an easy prospect.

Those keen on trekking can explore a nature trail located at Supegaon and visit the Nature Interpretation Centre at Majgaon. Some of the plants which are found in the Phansad Wildlife Sanctuary are Ain, Kinjal, Teak, Hirda, Jamba, Mango, Ficus and many more.

And if wildlife and treks aren’t the adrenalin rush you’re looking for then the sanctuary offers yet another leisure activity – bird watching. The Phansad Wildlife Sanctuary is regarded as a bird’s paradise and includes a large number of bird species like the Malabar Pied Hornbill, the Black Eagle, the Yellow Footed Green Pigeon, the Pompadour Green Pigeon, the Forest Wagtail, the Asian Paradise Flycatcher, the Brahmini Kite, the Spotted Owlet, the Golden Oriole, the Iora, the Plum-headed Parakeet and many more. Another fascinating feature about the sanctuary is that around 71 species of butterflies are found here.

The sanctuary offers a perfect vacation option for all nature lovers and those simply looking to just get away from the rush of city life. Visit anytime between October to April for a truly pleasant experience accompanied by wonderful weather.
