Situated at a short distance from Shirdi is Sakori. Sequestered in the quiet little village is the famous Shri Upasani Kanyakumari Sthan that was established by the respected holy seer Upasani Baba. Dressed in rough sackcloth, the austere yogi is said to have first come here and set up a small hut in a cremation ground that was avoided by all. From this humble beginning, the'Sthan' has grown and developed into its present state.

Aesthetic and elegantly designed, the Shri Upasani Kanyakumari Sthan is equipped with modern amenities and has small gardens, mandaps, rooms for residents and visitors. The Sthan is said to be a haven of tranquility and purity, with an atmosphere charged with positive vibrations, which even a casual visitor cannot miss.

After Upasani Baba attained Samadhi, Godavari Mata donned her Guru?s mantle with strength, simplicity and dignity. Devitai is now the spiritual head of this ashram and efficiently guides the residents of the ashram who are referred to as'Kanyas'.

The premise has temples dedicated to Lord Dattatreya, Shani, Kanyakumari and Khandoba. A deep sense of peace and serenity pervades the 'Amraveli 'cottage where Upasani Baba sat for meditation.

Today, the ashram stands as a proud monument of spiritual inspiration, a mighty creation of a simple ascetic who dared to elevate women to higher levels of spiritual growth and freedom.
