Revdanda Beach Fort

Away from the bustle of the city, lies the picturesque port called Revdanda, about 17 km from Alibaug. Standing atop the Salav Bridge, which connects Murud and Alibaug, one can get a breathtaking view of the Revdanda port, beach and the stunning Revdanda Beach Fort.

Though primarily in ruins now, one can t help but notice the quaint beauty of the fort. Its not hard to make out that in the days of its glory, the fort must have been a breathtaking sight at this already magnificent destination.

A remnant of the Portuguese rule in India, much of this fort is in a devastated condition. Now a relic of the past, what remains is only a seven-story tower, which has been run over by betel nut plantations. The fortification walls border the sea and the cannon holes that mar the walls make for quite an interesting effect on the walls. Despite its dilapidated state, the fort makes for an increasingly pretty sight, with abundance of water flanking it on its three sides.

Part of the town is situated within the premises of the old Portuguese fort and if you drive through the town, you can notice how the road enters through an old archway and then exits from another before getting on to the bridge.

During high tide, the waves crash onto the palm-fringed ramparts of the fort and one can get a magnificent view of the creek to the south and the beach to the north.

A visit to the fort is simply a must. The charm of the fort that still lingers, the picturesque locale and the view of the fort from the beach is hard to put down in words. Go with your partner and have yourself a romantic getaway, with the serenity and exquisiteness taking over your holiday and helping you unwind.
