On the banks of the river Godavari is the Sundarnarayan temple, built in 1756 by King Gangadhar Yashwant Chandrachud. The main god is Lord vishnu, Lakshmi and Saraswati. Lord Narayana, Hanuman, and Indira carvings can also be found here. The temple has globular domes, lobed arches and balcony seating. The doorways are headed by serpentine pediments and Angled eaves. Mughal sculpture has a great impact on this temple. It is said that the suns's first rays falls upon the idols of the temple on the 21st of March.
