Ajanta Caves

The Ajanta Caves consist of thirty rock-cut Buddhist caves and is situated 106 km from Aurangabad. The crucial designs of the caves are known as 'Chaitya grihas' and 'Viharas'. Five of the caves are Buddhist temples and the other twenty-five are monasteries. The Chaityas are expansive, rectangular cavities divided by lines of pillars. They are wonderfully decorated with sculptures and murals, http://travel247.tv/india/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/Ajanta-Caves.jpgwhich portray the many incarnations of Buddha. The Viharas are long rectangular shaped rooms with a sequence of small chambers, which are attached on both sides. The caves also provide a wonderful visual form of the life of Buddha and interesting stories from Jatakas.
