Daria Bahadurgad Fort

Daria Bahadurgad Fort

Daria-Bahadurgad is an island famous for its fort built by Basavappa Naik of Bidanur. This island is about a square mile in area and not more than 250 yards in width. The Fort is not only known for its structure but also the port here is known to export processed fish. It is also a fact that this port provides a safe harbour to many a ship during bad weather and rough seas.

Another fascinating attraction here are the temples. There are two temples: one is dedicated to Lord Balarama and the other to Anantheshwara. Also there is an old tile factory here, which dates back to the Bassel Mission. This is the oldest factory in Malpe.

Daria-Bahadurgad is accessible by boat from Malpe town, which is about 4kms to the west of Udupi. Udupi railway station is about 8kms from Malpe.
