Catherine Falls, nine km from Kotagiri, consists of an upper and lower fall. These double-cascaded falls; the second highest in the district, are named after Catherine Cockburn.

Catherine was the wife of M.D. Cockburn, who pioneered coffee in Kotagiri and Yercaud. Among the first Europeans who came to settle in Kotagiri's salubrious climes, the Cockburns, now buried in a local cemetery, contributed greatly to Kotagiri’s development.

The upper fall, which is the second highest in the Nilgiris, has a sheer drop of about 250 feet. From above the falls, the surroundings offer lovely views of Dolphin's Nose, forests, woodlands and the rolling glades of tea gardens.
