The Prasanna Krishnaswamy Temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna, the founder of the Yadu dynasty. The Mysore dynasty claims that they are descendants of “Yadu Vamsha” (the same as Krishna). Therefore this temple was built by by Krishnaraja Wodeyar III to honour the founder of their clan. Construction of the temple began 1825 and was completed in 1829. The statue of Krishnaraja Wodeyar III along with his wives with labels on their pedestals, is also worshipped here.

The temple is home to as many 40 bronze statues of gods and saints. The sanctum sanctorum has a beautiful image of Lord Krishna (Ambegalu Krishna in crawling posture) made of chlorite schist. He has a butter ball in his hand and a mischievous expression. The murals on the walls of the Navaranga (the central pillared hall) which depict stories from Bhagavata are excellent examples of 19th century Mysore Paintings.
