Kumbhalgarh Fort
The second most important citadel after Chittorgarh in the Mewar region, the Kumbhalgarh Fort was built in the 15th century by Rana Kumbha. This fort is located at the distance of 64 km from north of the City of Sunrise – Udaipur in the state of Rajasthan, India. The Kumbhalgarh Fort had remained unconquered till date because of its inaccessibility and hostile topography. Aravali Ranges surrounds this fort.
Set amidst the cluster of mountain peaks of Aravali Range and just 64 km from north of the City of Lakes – Udaipur in the state of Rajasthan, India, the Kumbhalgarh Fort served the rulers of Mewar region as a safe haven during the period of trouble. The fortified fort also served as safe haven to the baby king Udai of Mewar. The most important fact about this fort is the fort was the birthplace of legendary King Maharana Pratap (the most valiant among Rajput heroes of Rajasthan) of Mewar.
The massive Kumbhalgarh Fort is fortified with 33 km of thick wall (over 25 feet thick), the second largest continuous wall in the world. There are many magnificent palaces and temples inside this fortified fort. One of the most picturesque palaces is Badal Mahal (the Palace of Clouds). The Kumbhalgarh Fort houses another fort within itself named Katragarh Fort. The Katragarh Fort was built by Maharana Fateh Singh after destroying the old palace built by Rana Kumbha. There are 365 temples and shrines including one with a huge Shivlinga dedicated to Lord Shiva in the Katragarh Fort. The Kumbhalgarh Fort also offers a superb view of birds watching surrounding the fort.
To visit the rajasthan Kumbhalgarh Fort, one has to go to the City of Sunrise – Udaipur in the state of Udaipur because the fort is situated just 64 km north of Udaipur. Udaipur is well-connected by road and rail from all the major cities of India. Udaipur is also well-connected by air from some major cities of India and abroad.
