Upper Bhawani Lake

Another beautiful lake that should be on your must visit list is the panoramic Upper Bhawani Lake. A huge dam also known as Upper Bhawani Dam has been constructed to provide irrigation and drinking water to the neighboring areas. With the backdrop of the evergreen Nilgiri hills, clear skies and crystal clear waters, the place is secluded yet brimming with life. There are numerous tea plantations which lend an evergreen panoramic beauty to the whole region.

Tiger Hill

This is a picturesque spot, located east of Ooty town, on the lower lap of Doddabetta peak. Tiger Hill is a now a resort consisting of English style cottages. You can have a luxurious stay here in the lap of nature.

Thread Garden

A popular tourist spot and a haven for all those with creative fingers, this is an innovative and aesthetic creation of an artificial garden of plants and flowers all woven by thread. Surprisingly, no needles are used in the process.

The garden is located on the same road as the Boat House. This artificially embroidered garden bearing natural models of plants and flowers using self developed technology of “hand wound embroidery” has taken 12 years with the effort of 50 lady artists, using more than 6 crore meters of embroidery threads. You will not help wonder how beautifully these pieces are crafted.

Once you buy one of these beautiful pieces of craft, you should preserve them carefully without exposing them directly to sunlight or artificial light. You should use only cotton to clean the glass case and don’t try to cover out from the base, as it is permanently fixed. Your trip to Ooty would be incomplete without a visit to this unique garden that exhibits such outstanding craftsmanship.

Mukurti Peak

Amidst the hills bordering the southern plains of Kerala, Mukurti Peak stands out at 2556 mt. above sea level. A beautiful place, isolated from commercial activities, in the lap of Nature, it is known for exquisite sunrises and sunsets. There are a few huts and camping grounds for those who want to enjoy the raw wilderness of the hills.

Kamraj Sagar Lake

A popular picnic spot, Kamraj Sagar Lake is an artificial reservoir formed close to the dam. The scenic beauty has been captured in many movies and as it is enclosed with rolling green hills and unspoiled nature, it is a peaceful. It is a well known fishing spot and you can savor a variety of fish delights here.

Government Museum

The Government Museum, Mysore Road, Udhagamandalam, has items of tribal objects, districts ecological details and representative sculptural arts and crafts of Tamil Nadu. It was set up in 1989, with a view to provide education benefits to the residing and visiting population of the Nilgiris district. The admission to this museum is free. The timings are 10.00 am to 1.00 pm and 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm. It is closed on Fridays, Second Saturdays and National Holidays. The nearest airport is at Coimbatore (100-km).

Emerald Lake

In the upper plateau of the Nilgiri Hills, the awe inspiring Emerald Lake is a must see. The lake is besides the Red Hill resort and is famed for it panoramic beauty, water activities and breathtakingly beautiful sunsets. Close to the lake are numerous tea gardens that increase the scenic beauty.

Cairn Hill

It is situated about 3 km on the road to Avalanche Cairn hill. It is one of the few surviving original walks. The entrance road to the bill is flanked by dense cypress trees. This is an excellent spot for a picnic. There are many hill resorts here. You can stay there and enjoy the picturesque surroundings, greenery and fresh air. Also a great place for photography.
