All the attempts of the Marathas to rule over Orchha went in vain and in the year 1783, Tehri was declared as the capital of Orchha.

The city was ruled by Hamir Singh from 1848 to 1874 A.D and in the year 1865, the king gained the title of the ‘Maharaja’. Maharaja Pratap Singh sat on the throne of Orchha in 1874.

Orchha was declared as a part of Madhya Pradesh in the year 1956.

The name Bhimbetka comes from the Hindu Epic Mahabharata, Bhim-bait-ka means Bheem (One of the five pandavas ) had rested here when Pandavas were banished from their kingdom. The Rock Shelters at Bhimbetka exhibit the earliest traces of human life in India. According to archaeologists, the caves must have been inhabited over 10,000 years ago. Surrounded by dense forests and rocky cliffs, the site is spectacular and is an Ornithologists paradise with its numerous bird species. Of the rock shelters, about 15 of them are open to the public.

Apart from the mystic beauty of nature, what brings Bhimbetka on the tourist map is the discovery of over 600 rock shelters belonging to the Neolithic age. Here, paintings in over 500 caves depict in vivid panoramic detail the life of the pre-historic man. An archaeological treasure, this region has been declared a World Heritage Site. Tourist Attractions of Bhimbetka

Bhimbetka Caves are the exclusive tourist attraction in the place. Done mainly in red and white with the casual use of green and yellow, the scenes of the cave paintings usually depict everyday events like hunting, dancing, music, horse and elephant riders, animals fighting, honey collection, decoration of bodies, disguises, masking and household scenes. Animals have been depicted in some caves. Popular religious and ritual symbols also occur frequently. The drawings and paintings can be classified under seven different periods:

  • Upper Paleolithic
These are mainly linear images in green and dark red, of huge figures of animals such as bison, tigers and rhinoceros.

  • Mesolithic
Smaller in size, the figures show linear decoration of the body. Apart from animals, there are human figures and hunting scenes giving a clear picture of the weapons they used. The depiction of communal dances, birds, musical instruments, men and women, drinking and burials appear in rhythmic movement.

  • Chaleolithic
These drawings reveal the fact that the cave dwellers of this area had come in contact with the agricultural communities of the Malwa plains and exchanged their requirements with each other.

  • Early History
Painted mainly in red, white and yellow, the paintings depict religious symbols, tunic-like dresses and the existence of scripts of different periods. Figures of yakshas, tree gods and magical sky chariots reflect their religious beliefs.

  • Medieval

Enclosed by the northern tassel of the majestic Vindhyans, Bhimbetka in Bhopal is characterized by rock-strewn topography with thick woods and wrinkled precipices. The biggest depository of antediluvian knacks in India, Bhimbetka is a retreat of serenity and harmony for the picnickers. One of the most primitive dwellings of human race, Bhimbetka boasts of a history of 35000 years old.

In fact, the place has witnessed a cultural sequence right from the late stone age to the early historic period. The flamboyant paintings that depict the living styles of primeval mankind are definitely a treasure house of information and a precious narrative in the history of man. As the name itself suggests, this historic place is closely related to the legendary figure Bhim, the second in the Pandavas. The popular belief is that, it was here that Bhim took a brief rest during his exile. The word Bimbetka literally means Bim’s lounge.

A marvel in the archaeological perspective, Bimbetka is adorned with the accolade of being the richest depository of prehistoric paintings, in South Asia. It is the twenty second place in India, which is declared as a World heritage site by UNESCO. The Rock Shelters at Bhimbetka exhibit the earliest traces of human life in India. Archeologists are of the opinion that these caves might have been occupied over 10,000 years ago.

These paintings portray the transition of primitive man to a cultured human being. These paintings, which unearths the expectations and qualms of the inhabitants of the caves enthralls every visitor with its liveliness. It is quite amazing to note that the artists had shown great skill in portraying the sequence of events in his artwork. A wide spectrum of activities is being illustrated on the walls, which ranges from frescos of animals to the portraits of woman.

Bordered by impenetrable forests and wobbly crags, the site also offers spectacular sceneries and poses a treasure trove for bird lovers. Welcome To Pench National Park

    Welcome To Pench National Park

    INTRODUCTION:
The Pench National Park on the border of Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra has been known through the ages for its rich flora and fauna. Many writers like Captain Forsyth, A.A.D. Brander, R.A. Strendale, and Rudyard Kipling have all mentioned Pench in their books as the place with rich and beautiful flora and fauna.

Named after the river that flows nearby, Pench was declared a Wildlife Sanctuary in 1983, though it had been declared a notified area in 1972. Today, the park is the 19th Tiger Reserve in the country and takes pride in its tigers and other wildlife. The total area under the Pench Tiger Reserve comes to about 758 km, out of which a core area of 299 sq km is the National Park and 464 km the buffer area.

This park is different. Located in the AVSM (Aravali, Vindhyanchal, Satpura and Maikal Ranges) belt, this teak forest is a different and a pleasant surprise to the normal and scenic parks of Kanha and Bandhavgarh. The tracks are smoother, the trees are thicker with dense undergrowth, perhaps one reason why the herbivore population here is more larger in size compared to Kanha and Bandhavgarh. There is a distinct silence here. You feel you are the King, when suddenly your driver halts seeing the Pugmarks of the actual King of the area. A Tiger has just crossed, he shows them to you, and suddenly an alarm call from one of the denizens of the forest. You, your driver, your naturalist are all alert. Looking in the direction of the call, eye balls much bigger than usual, heart pounding at 120 beats a minute. Ears as big as of an Elephant, you want to see the true King of Pench. The drama, unfolds, and you are in Pench, the true and original Kipling Country.

    LOCATION :

The park is situated in the Seoni district of southern Madhya Pradesh and runs in continuation with Pench National Park of Maharashtra. It is located between latitude 21°40' in the North and longitude 79°15' in the east. It is connected with an all weather metalled road network to other places of importance in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. The Park is situated in the Seoni District of Southern Madhya Pradesh and runs in continuation with Pench National Park in Maharashtra. It is situated 82 Kms. The nearest railhead of Nagpur- Jabalpur (192 Kms.) serves as a comfortable air and railhead.

    Best time to visit :

If you want to catch sight of tigers and other wildlife, plan your visit to the park during the summer months, as this is the time the animals come out in search of waterholes. Winters months maybe may more comfortable, but it is very difficult to view much wildlife during this season. The Pench National Park is open to visitors from early November to end June each year and closed during the rainy season (July- October).

    Accommodation
The Pench Jungle Camp is a good place to stay and provides canvas tents and A/c rooms. The Jungle Camp also offers facilities like billiards room, badminton courts, wildlife research centre and a multi cuisine restaurant. The other accommodation facility is Bagh Van Lodge located just five minutes away from the entrance of the Pench National Park. Welcome to Kahna National Park

    Welcome to Kahna National Park

    About Kanha National Park
Madhya Pradesh Forest Department has decided that National parks will be re-opend as per their previous schedlule, hence National Parks in Madhya Pradesh will be reopened for tourists on 1st October, 2008 positively!!

Kanha National park is located in Banjar and Halon valleys in the Mandla / Balaghat districts of the state of Madhya Pradesh. Kanha National Park is one of the India’s finest tiger reserves. It is spread more than 940 sq km in a horse shoe shaped valley bound by the spurs of the Mekal range the park presents a varies topography.

Kanha national park is more famous for its wildlife, the natural beauty of its landscape is just as fascinating. One of the best locations to enjoy that bounty is Bammi Dadar, also known as the sunset point..

Bandhavgarh National Park is one of the wild life sanctuaries in the Indian state Madhya Pradesh. The national park is situated at 197 km away north-east of Jabalpur. This wild life park derived its very name from an ancient fort in the area. Bandhawgarh National Park belongs to the Vindhyan mountain ranges of central India and it boasts to have the highest density of tiger population in the country. Now there are about 46 to 52 tigers one can spot here.

    Fauna :

Kanha boasts of about 22 species of mammals. Some of the inhabitants of this park are the gaur, the largest of the world's cattle; the sambar, the largest Indian deer; and the chausingha, the only four-horned antelopein the world. Other frequent visitors include the Nilgai antelope, thesloth bear, the dhole, or Indian wild dog, and an occasional panther. Some 200 species of birds inhabit the park, that include the cattle egret, blackibis, hawk eagle, and the red-wattled lapwing. Shravantal is an old, earthen bound tank in the central Kanha meadows, which happens to be an important watering hole, for a large number of water fowl in winter. Bamni Dadar, known as Sunset Point, is the most beautiful section of the park, and the view ofthe sunset from this spot is absolutely mesmerising. Quite a few animals can be sighted around this area which include the sambar, gaur, the four-horned antelope and the barking deer.

The barasingha is undoubtedly, the jewel of Kanha, and drastic steps have been taken to rescue it from complete extinction. The enlargement of the grasslands, through village reallocation, has been responsible for this impressive achievement. Barasinghas exist almost totally on grass, and tall grass meadows are essential for their security. At the height of winter, between December and January, falls the rutting season of these animals, and huge groups can be easily spotted in the Kanha and Sonph meadows. A small, but significant number of blackbucks also inhabit the central Kanha meadow.
But for all the astonishing diversity in its wildlife population, Kanha is best known as the habitat of the tiger. Sighting and photographing this magnificent animal from elephant back, is an unforgettable experience.

Location : Mandla, 170 kms from Jabalpur, 445 kms from Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh.

Coverage Area : 1940 sq km

Main Attraction : One of the Most Scenic and Beautiful Wildlife Reserves in Asia

Best Time To Visit : The park is closed from July 1 to October 31, because of the heavy

    Latest about Bandhavgarh National Park

Madhya Pradesh Forest Department has decided that National parks will be re-opend as per their previous schedlule, hence National Parks in Madhya Pradesh will be reopened for tourists on 1st October, 2008 positively!

Bandhavgarh National Park is spread at vindhya hills in Madhya Pradesh. Bandhavgarh National Park consists of a core area of 105 sq km and a buffer area of approximately 400 sq km of topography varies between steep ridges, undulating, forest and open meadows. The density of the Tiger population at Bandhavgarh is the highest known in India.Bandhavgarh National Park was the former hunting preserve of the Maharaja of Rewa and at present is a famous natural hub for White Tigers. White Tigers, now a major attraction around the world's zoos, were first discovered in Rewa, not far from here. The terrain is broken, with rocky hill ranges, running roughly east west, interspersed with grassy swamps and forested valleys.

    Structure

Tourist are restricted to an area of 105 km² of the park, known as the Tala range. However this area is richest in terms of biodiversity, mainly tigers. There are four more ranges in the reserve namely – Magdhi, Kallwah, Khitauli and Panpatha. The buffer zone is spread over the forest divisions of Umaria and Katni and totals another 437 km². History

The state of Rewa owes its origins to the foundation of a state dating to 1234 by Vyaghra Dev, a descendant of the Vaghelas of Gujarat. He married the daughter of the Raja of Pirhawan and conquered the territory between Kalpi and Chandalgarh. Karan Dev, son of Vyaghra Dev married the daughter of the Raja of Ratanpur, bringing Bandhogarh ( Now Known as BANDHAVGARH) into the family as her dowry. The legendary fortress of Bandhogarh fell into Mughal hands in 1597, almost by accident. At the death of H.H. Maharaja Virbhadra Rao in 1593, his minor son succeeded as H.H. Maharaja Vikramaditya. Sent to Delhi for his own safety, the emperor took advantage of his absence to send one of his loyal nobles as temporary governor. Once he had taken control of the fort, the Maharaja’s nobles and officials were expelled and the fort annexed by the Mughals. On his return to his remaining domains, H.H. Maharaja Vikramaditya was forced to establish a new capital at Rewa, from whence the state took its name
