Andaman and Nicobar

Andaman Islands
Andaman Islands

Greatest Design of Nature
Adorning the seas on the eastern side of Indian mainland, is the archipelago of 572 emerald islands, islets and rocks, known as Andaman & Nicobar Islands. It is one of the many Union territories in India. Covering an area of more than 700 Km, Andaman and Nicobar is home to some of the most primitive tribes and cultures, rarest flora and fauna, and the most exquisite destinations for tourism. The dense forests on these islands still hold on to some of the nature's biggest secrets and mysteries. This lends Andaman and Nicobar Islands an air of Enigma that never fail to attract tourists and nature enthusiasts from around the world.

It is believed that the name Andaman is derived from the name of Hindu God Lord Hanuman, who was known as Handuman to Malay people. These islands are thought to be home to oldest tribes in the world even before the recorded history. The Great Andamanese, Onges, Jarawas, and Sentinatese are among the earliest indigenous tribes on these islands. Andaman and Nicobar islands have come under the rule of both British and Japanese. The first settlement of British took place in the year 1789. The most famous evidence of their rule that was left behind, is the Cellular Jail in the capital of Andaman and Nicobar Port Blair. Though some part of it got destroyed, a large part of it still stands, reminding us of the freedom fighters and the revolts for Indian independence.

Andaman and Nicobar Islands is home to people of all faiths - Hindus, Muslims and Christians; and of all languages like Hindi, Bengali, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Punjabi and Nicobari. They all live in complete peace and harmony with inspiring tolerance towards each other's religion.

The one thing that takes Andaman and Nicobar to the top of the list of tourist destinations in India is the adventure possibilities present here. The seas surrounding these islands are absolutely perfect to indulge in sports like Scuba Diving and snorkeling. The lagoons are full of diverse species of fishes and live coral that makes adventure in these waters a real treat. And there could not be a better place than the hills of Andaman and Nicobar Islands for a trekking experience that is heart pumping and tranquil at the same moment.
