| The 15th century fort at Murud Janjira is the only one on the Maharashtra coastline never to have been conquered by an enemy. Though the Siddis fought fierce battles with the Portuguese and the British, they were unable to take over the fort. The 40-foot walls around the fort protect it from the pounding of the sea waves. |
