| Mandawa is a charming village with beautiful swaying groves of coconut palms and a serene, unspoilt beach. An interesting bit of trivia is that several Bollywood stars and celebrities have their getaway homes tucked away around here. The tourist destination is situated about 20 km north of Alibag. One way of getting here is to take an exhilarating catamaran ride or a 45 minute bumpy ferry ride from Mumbai's Gateway of India to the Mandawa jetty. The alternate is a roundabout road trip that will take you about 3 hours. One of the chief attractions of Mandawa is the Kolaba fort which is captivatingly situated in the sea at a distance of 1-2 km from the Alibag shores. At low tide, you can wade or walk to the fort, as the water recedes behind the fort. However at high tide you will need at boat to get to the Fort. |
