In the Thane district, far from the maddening crowd, Jawahar is one of the lesser known hill station retreats in the state of Maharashtra. Characteristic of other hill-stations, Jawhar is also abundant and rich in scenic beauty with striking dales, forest and a pleasant climate, all coupled together to make Jawhar the ultimate destination for a rejuvenating weekend.

Located at an altitude of 518 m, the temperature in Jawhar stays between 25?C to 30? C.

Located 180 kilometres from Mumbai, Jawahar is the settlement of the Warli tribe, which is most famous for their paintings. Popularly hailed as the Mahabaleshwar of Thane District, Jawahar is munificently steeped in history and culture.

The Jai Vilas Palace is the focal point in Jawhar, attracting thousands and thousand of tourists each year. Surrounded by extensive cashew plantations spread over a massive area, the palace was the residence of the erstwhile tribal lords.

Jawhar was a princely state during the British rule and was ruled by the Munke family. The Jai Vilas Palace, the palace of the tribal lords, offers an exclusive space and opportunity to showcase and depict the tribal way of life in full form.

The palace is primarily noted for its Hall, graced with lovely portraits of the Munke clan. Apart from some intricate antique furniture, a range of stuffed tigers and a huge lobby can also be found in the area upstairs in the palace.

The Jai Vilas Palace was built by the King on the top of the hill, surrounded by thick forest and cashew plantations. The Palace doubles up as a largely teeming tourist attraction and also a favoured destination for film shootings. A major hit with locals and tourists from all over the country, the Jai Vilas Palace is a must-visit, especially if you always wanted a peek into grand lives of the royalty from the past.
