Murud is a picturesque little fishing village that lies 165 km away from Mumbai on the lush green western coast of Maharashtra. It was once the capital of the former state of Janjira.

To the right of the village is the Datta Mandir, a red-domed temple situated atop a hill. Swami Bramhendra built this temple dedicated to Shri Datta, its three-headed deity representing the Gods Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwara.

Though the temple is easily accessible by way of a motorable road, you should attempt trekking up the stone steps to reach the top. The panoramic view from the top makes the effort worthwhile. Pick out a secluded spot and watch the spectacular sunset from this lofty point.
