Victoria memorial, similar to the architectural style of Belfast city hall in England, was built to commemorate Queen Victoria. Victoria Memorial, one of the most beautiful buildings in India, can be found in the Maidan area of Kolkata. The building covers an area of 26 hectors of land. It was designed by Sir William Emerson and was built during 1906 to 1921. Though built in Italian Renaissance style, it has the elements of Mughal style of architecture also. In fact, it is a perfect blend of western and eastern style of architecture.
Currently, the memorial is used as a museum although photography is strictly prohibited within the building. The whispering gallery inside the memorial is one of the attractions of the place. Outside the memorial there is a huge garden that stretches around 64 acres of beautiful landscape.
