This is a very famous temple in Udupi. The statue of Lord Krishna was set up by the great sage Madhavacharya about 700 years ago. The offerings in the temple start at 5”o’ clock in the morning and continue all day long, devoid of any interruptions.

According to legends, Kanakadasa, an ardent devotee of the Lord was not allowed inside the temple to see the Lord. But since Lord Krishna was appeased by his devotion, he turned the idol itself so much so that Kanakadasa was able to see him through a little window. In fact, the window is known as “Kanakana Kindi” (which means Kanaka’s window in Kannada) and forms an attractive feature during the visit to the temple.

The idol of Lord Krishna here is richly adorned with jewels. It is also the centre for education, social and religious activities in the district of South Canara.

The temple is at a distance of approximately 60kms from Mangalore.
