| The elegant and artistically sculpted black stone, Shantaleshwara Temple was named after the Queen Shantala Devi, wife of King Vishnuvardhana of the Hoysala dynasty. The most unique aspect of the temple is that it required 20,000 workers many years to complete as it stands today! Numerous figurines, folk tales and mythologies are carved in detail on the outer temple walls. A Museum is situated within the complex and showcases the gold coins and sculptures dating back to the 12th century. |
