Periyar Tiger trail

Periyar Tiger trail

Amidst the lush forests of the Sanctuary, the adventurous Periyar Tiger trail is worth a trip. The beautiful trail is crisscrossed with hills, streams, wide open areas and unique flora. You can come across giant squirrel, Nilgiri langur, monkeys, and elephants while on rare occasions, even tigers. Former poachers now work as guides within the Sanctuary and have many interesting tales to narrate. Trekking, hiking and camping can be enjoyed here.

About 3 km. away from Vazhikkadavu, Kurisumala is a Christian pilgrimage center and attracts thousands of devotees each year. It is also known for picturesque landscaping, lush verdant greenery and fragrant mountain air. On the hill is the rock cut temple of Muruganmala, dedicated to Lord Murugan, the son of Lord Shiva. You can also see the beautiful artificial lake and European looking houses, designed by Laurie Baker, a known designer.
