| Just about 3 kilometers from Alleppey is a tiny village called Karumadi that is famed for a beautiful statue of Buddha sculpted in black granite and is popularly known as Karumadi Kuttan. People of this village believe that the statue belongs to the 9th or the 10th century. Another significance of this statue is it is half broken. According to a popular legend, a wild elephant attacked the statue and this is why its left portion is missing. The river Karumadi passes nearby and is an ideal location to relax. |
