Howrah Bridge, stretched across the Hoogly River, is one of the main landmarks of Kolkata. The Bridge is popularly called the "New Howrah Bridge" because it connects the city of Kolkata and Howrah. It is the sixth largest Bridge in the world and was built between 1937 and 1943. Later on 1965 it was renamed to "Rabindra Setu" to commemorate Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore.
The Bridge, an architectural marvel, is one of the very few Cantilever Suspension bridges in the country built without using a single nut or bolt. 80,000 vehicles and around 1,000,000 pedestrians use the bridge on a daily basis making it one of the busiest bridges in the world.
