On the western bank of River Hoogly, the beautiful Botanical Garden was founded in 1786 by Col. Kyd, a British Officer as a research plantation for plants from all over the globe. From the tea plants to the exotic varieties of plants from South America, Brazil and Java, there are numerous plants that can be seen. The Botanical Garden is known for Orchid House, Cuban Palms, mahogany trees and the fascinating 200 years old Banyan Tree.
