A visit to the man made, Willingdon Island is a must. Created in 1933 the island was constructed from dredged sand which came up while construction of Cochin Port was in progress. Named after Lord Willingdon, a former British envoy, today the island is the headquarters of Southern Naval Command while numerous luxury hotels offer a luxurious stay for tourists with the view of the backwaters
