surat, The essence of Gujarat
Tue, Oct 5, 2010
A city steeped in history and tradition, Surat is a popular tourist destination that is located in the state of Gujarat, in West India. Lying in the vicinity of the coast that kisses the Arabian Sea, Surat has been a vital port ever since the time of the Mughal Empire. Surat was associated with Mahatma Gandhi, who is known as the “Father of the Nation” and is respected as one of the persons responsible for Indian Independence.
The coast fringes the Arabian Sea, and has some excellent beaches on the coast as well. Although not as famous as Goa and Kerala beaches, the city has some luscious stretches of sand. Apart from the beauty of these beaches, they are the very locations to head of you want a serene beach holiday, as Surat beaches are a far cry from the hustle and bustle of Goan beaches.
