| Dholavira is an ancient metropolitan city and the 5th largest Harappan site in the Indian subcontinent. It is locally known as Kotada Timba Prachin Mahanagar Dholavira. It is one of the most well-known archaeological sites in India. It belongs to the Indus Valley Civilization. It is situated on the Khadir Island in the Kutch district of Gujarat which is encircled by water in the rainy season. The special feature of this region is Dholavira Ruins. Kutch Dholavira Ruins carry some of the very elegant and precious antiquities of the past. In fact, Dholavira Ruins in Kutch has been most acclaimed amongst all the forts and monuments in Gujarat. Some of the articles that constitute the major portion of the excavated materials comprise of refined urban planning and architecture, antiquities like seals, beads, animal bones, gold, silver, terracotta ornaments and vessels belonging to Mesopotamia. This apart the Kutch Dholavira Ruins reveal that Dholavira was a prominent hub of trade between colonies in south Gujarat, Sindh and Punjab and Western Asia. The nearest airport to reach this place is Bhuj. You can also reach here by road from Ahmedabad and by rail (Samakhyali), 160 km on the Palamnpur-Gandhidham line. | |
