About Ranthambhore National Park
The ex-hunting ground of the Maharajahs Jaipur, the Ranthambhore National Park is one of the largest tiger reserves in India and located Sawai Madhopur district of eastern Rajasthan, where the Aravali Hill ranges and Vindhyan plateau meet. Bounded by the river Chambal in the south and Banas in north, the park is excellent eye-treat of wildlife lovers. Various man-made lakes and natural rivers are the central attraction of the park.
The Ranthambhore National Park was declared as a game sanctuary in 1995, and in 1972 with the commencement of Project Tiger, it was proclaimed as a Tiger Reserve in India and later in 1980, it got the status of a National Park. Today, the park is considered as one of the most popular national parks in India. The park covers the total area of 1,334 square km along with its two adjacent wildlife sanctuaries i.e. the Mansingh Sanctuary and the Kaila Devi Sanctuary. The park is also popular among tourists as a heritage site because of the ruins of fort that dot the park. The best time to visit Ranthambhore National Park is during the month of October to March and April to June.
